Benefits of Pets on the Truck
April 15, 2020
Seeing a truck driver with a dog on board is becoming a much more common sight. We have met many drivers who cannot image driving without their pet. This inspired a survey of our Brake Time community, in which 130 drivers participated. Here are the results:
Out of the 130 drivers surveyed, 65% either have a pet or used to have a pet on the truck. Most of these pets are dogs, but 22% of drivers do have cats. This brought up the question, what made you start driving with a pet? The top reasons being company, protection and/or pet rescue.
As a professional truck driver who does not drive with a partner, time alone is vast. Spending weeks to months away from home, loneliness is a well-known issue among truckers. Having a pet in the truck is a great way to provide a source of companionship and can improve a driver's sense of well-being. We have met many truck drivers who feel their pet helps the day go by faster and gives them company while on-the-road.
