Thanksgiving On-the-Go
November 12, 2025
The holidays are approaching, and it’s not uncommon for truck drivers to find themselves over-the-road, away from family and the comforts of home. If this sounds like a familiar scenario, rest assured, you are not alone. Also, there are great options to enjoy a hearty holiday meal. Here are some options to consider…
Many truck stops offer delicious, hot holiday meals. Not only is this option just a short walk from your cab, but you’ll likely find other drivers doing the same. It’s a great opportunity to share not only a meal, but also conversation before heading back out on the road. Here are just a few truck stops offering Thanksgiving meals:
- Kenly 95 Petro is hosting an All-You-Can-Eat Thanksgiving, 10 am - 10 pm in the Iron Skillet.
- Joplin 44 Petro is hosting a Thanksgiving meal, 11 am – 11 pm in the Iron Skillet.
- Iowa 80 Truckstop is hosting their annual Thanksgiving buffet, 10 am - 9 pm at the Iowa 80 Kitchen. (The Iowa 80 Kitchen is open 24/7 and will have their full menu available as well.)
Stand-alone restaurants often offer holiday meals as well, even if it’s different from their standard menu. According to drivers in the RoadPro Driver's Lounge, Country Pride, Golden Corral, and Denny’s offer tasty meals. Other options include: Iron Skillet, Cracker Barrel, and Bob Evans. Check a location near you for hours and easy access.
Grocery stores like Walmart, Kroger, and Publix typically sell pre-cooked, heat-and-eat Thanksgiving meals with all the fixin’s. Pick one up at a location near you. (Maybe two, since leftovers are the best part!) Use your microwave or 12-volt appliance to reheat your meal in your cab if needed.
And, if you’re game to put your cooking skills to the test, there are endless options to cook a meal in your cab. If you have an inverter, you likely have some appliance options on hand. No inverter? No worries. Try the RoadPro line of 12-volt cooking appliances to get the job done. (Found in most travel centers, or online.) Here are a few recipes to get you started:
Whichever option you choose, we hope you enjoy a wonderful meal, and a Happy Thanksgiving.
