RoadPro Pro Driver Council member Henry Albert swapped his 18-wheeler for a 2-wheeler to complete the first half of the Trans-America Trail on his motorcycle this past May/June.

Henry and a friend started their journey in Charlotte, North Carolina and rode over 4,000 miles to Salida, Colorado. They drove through Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Throughout the journey, Henry used the Cummins 12-Can Portable Cooler, which he strapped to the back of his bike, for convenient storage.

He also included the Cummins 20-in-1 Multi-Tool Pocket Knife in his gear. Even though he never had to use it, he said it brought peace of mind to have it with him.

Henry and his friend camped for most of the trip, including camping behind a truck stop at one point. They also camped in the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina.

For light, Henry hung the Cummins Ignition Pocket Flashlight (500 Lumens) from the top of his tent.

Henry said they experienced a lot of “second day fun”. They faced a lot of hardships on their ride, but it is all things they can look back on now and laugh.

To start the trip, they endured a lot of rain. Day six was the first time they were able to ride a full day without torrential downpours. In Mississippi, they had to drive through standing water half the height of their bikes.

The wet leaves and mud proved to be treacherous, and Henry suffered an accident that left him with an injured ankle, but he continued onward.

In Colorado, they dealt with more bad weather. They drove through rain, sleet, snow, and hail before finally concluding this portion of their journey in Salida, Colorado.

They completed over 4,400 miles on their bikes, with Henry riding 3,300 of those on an injured ankle.

With Henry and his friend both being professional truck drivers, they found one of the hardest parts of the trip was learning to slow down and enjoy the ride. They got to visit historical sights, see beautiful scenery, visit state parks and more.

Henry is planning on completing the second half of the trail this August.
