Spring Cleaning Your Truck
March 14, 2018
YES! We know, what a winter! But spring is finally here and what a better time to clean up your truck and erase the last bits of this unpredictable winter season. Just a few hours on a warm sunny day – Yes, they are on their way – is all it will take.
The first step should be to de-clutter your cab – get rid of all the items you aren’t using and really look at what you truly need in your cab. Often you may find some items that are not helping you out while on the road or are not needed. Also look around and organize items in bins or storage and throw out any items that might have been missed like used coffee cups, receipts or other papers or reading material that you are done with.
Having a vacuum handy like the RoadPro® 12 Volt wet/dry canister vacuum, that has a 36” flexible hose and upholstery and crevice attachments, will get rid of all the dirt and residue from road salt, mud and dirt on your floors that is typically dragged into your cab in winter driving. You can also start with the RoadPro dust pan and brush for those larger leaves or twigs that might be on the floor and might clog up your vacuum. Take out the floor mats shake them out then go to work on the floor and underneath the seats. Use the crevice tool to get into those tight spaces where dirt collects and even go over your air vents and other hard to reach areas.
Wipe down the dashboard, steering wheel, seats, inside of the doors and any other surfaces in the cab with a soft cloth like the RoadPro multipurpose towel 3 pack or an Armor All® microfiber buffing towel, as well as a mild cleaner. Armor All makes a wide selection of various levels of cleaning products for your cab, but you can find others from Mothers®, Protective Products, Stoner, Blue Magic and more at almost any travel center.
This is also a good time to clean out your sleeper. Strip the linens, and vacuum both sides of the mattress. You might want to wipe it down with a damp cloth and then leave it outside to air out while you finish cleaning.
Use a good glass cleaner for your windows or even a mix of vinegar and water that you can put in a spray bottle. There are some great products like Invisible Glass from Stoner that are safe to use even on tinted windows. Use a clean cloth to wipe them clean or even newspaper works well. You will be surprised how dirty the inside of your windshield is after the winter and it is great to shine them up.
While it will take a bit of time when you get back in your cab it will be a great feeling to have a fresh and clean environment to drive in and to say goodbye to winter.
