As any truck driver knows there are times on the road where you need something to keep you alert while you are driving, or to occupy the hours when you stop for the day. Yes, you can phone a friend or a loved one and chat for a while – but at some point maybe you just want some time to not be saying anything to anyone or perhaps you are in a bad area where cell service is not the best. Here are a few things to do while rolling down the road that also have great benefits.
Listen to a Book or Podcast
Wow! The selections are endless! For audiobooks, check out Audible, Google Play or Rakuten Overdrive to name a few. You can also borrow free audiobooks from your local library, some can be downloaded right to your phone. Whatever you are into, fiction, non-fiction, thrillers, biographies – you are sure to find something that you like. If you are a person that doesn’t like to read books, this is a great alternative and can give you a new perspective, increase creativity and stimulate the mind.
Podcasts offer lots of variation and can be a different form of entertainment then talk radio or music. There is so much to choose from including comedy, news, education, business, history and more. They are free entertainment and you can learn new things and expand your imagination.
Learn a New Language
Did you know that hearing a language is the most efficient way to learn it? So, if you always wanted to learn a new language you are in luck. There are many apps to download and listen to as well as plenty of other audio options from companies such as Rosetta Stone, FluentU and more. Wherever you drive these days it is most likely you will encounter someone that may not be fluent in or speak the same language. You may be able to assist if they need directions or help. Learning a new language also improves your first language and challenges your mind.
Sing, Sing, Sing
Is there a favorite movie or musical soundtrack that you love to sing too? Maybe it’s a favorite band or group. Singing can lower stress levels and enhance well-being. Some health experts strongly believe that singing frequently is a great aerobic exercise that can be used effectively to work the lungs and abdominal muscle. It also can increase your concentration levels. Belt out a tune while rolling down the road and join some of our trucker musician friends that do the same.
Join a Trucker Forum or Trucker Community
While having a conversation with others in the trucking community face to face it typically not an option, joining an online forum or community specifically geared towards the trucking community can be a way to connect with others in the industry. These forums are used to discuss industry topics, news, personal interests or maybe look for the best place to stop for a good home cooked meal while on the road, or the best cup of coffee on the interstate. RoadPro recently launched its own driver driven community called Brake Time. This all new exclusive trucking community offers drivers an opportunity to connect with other drivers as well as RoadPro Family of Brands. Members can participate in trucking lifestyle discussions, industry news and topics that address the on-the-go lifestyle. There are also fun activities and games within the platform and opportunities to weigh in on the latest products.
