Top 6 Memorable Trucks from TV and Movies
November 21, 2017
Big trucks have a big presence, so it’s no surprise that directors keep casting them in movies. Sometimes they’re heroes and sometimes they’re villains, but they always make an impact.
Here are the top 6 memorable on-screen trucks:
1. The Happy Toyz “Green Goblin” truck from “Maximum Impact” (1986)
This is the main baddie in the machines-gone-berserk thriller based on a Stephen King short story. There’s some debate online about the make and model, but the consensus seems to be that it’s a White Western Star 4800.
2. The Coors-smuggling 1973 Kenworth W900A from “Smokey and the Bandit” (1977)
Sure, Burt Reynold’s Pontiac Firebird Trans Am got most of the attention, but it was just an escort for Jerry Reed’s Kenworth. And, the semi ran over a biker gang’s motorcycles; don’t try that in a Trans Am.
3. The deadly Peterbilt 281 from “Duel” (1971)
Steven Spielberg’s first full-length feature starred a narrow-nosed tanker truck stalking motorist Dennis Weaver through the American Southwest.
4. Rubber Duck’s Mack RS-712LST from “Convoy” (1978)
Designed by the movie studio and specially built by Mack, this truck carried Kris Kristofferson and Ali MacGraw on the run from the law. Unfortunately, none of the four used in the movie survived.
5. The “Pork-Chop Express” from “Big Trouble in Little China” (1986)
You don’t mess with a man’s truck, especially when it’s a Freightliner FLC 120 with a custom paint job, like the one driven by Jack Burton (Kurt Russell).
6. “Blue Mule” from “White Line Fever” (1975)
Independent trucker Carrol Jo Hummer (Jan-Michael Vincent) battles cargo crooks and organized crime in his 1974 cabover Ford WT9000.
